Keoladeo Ghana National Park

About The Park:
Keoladeo Ghana national park In the north Indian state of Rajasthan The Keoladeo Ghana National Park earlier known as Bharatpur bird sanctuary is situated in the town Bharatpur.It was given the status of a national park in 1981.The park covers an area of 29 sq.km .The park derives its name from an ancient temple dedicated to lord Shiva in the sanctuary and the term 'Ghana' means dense which refers to its thick forest. ClimateDuring April-June the temperature of the parks lies between 38 to 45 degrees C & winter the it goes below 10 degrees C. The best time to visit the park is from October to February when the migratory birds come to visit this park.
 

Wildlife Attractions in Keoladeo Ghana National Park

The major Attractions in the park are....

Flora :
The park comprises of scrublands and grass lands and more than 4000 trees which are best places for nesting birds & is responsible for providing a natural habitat to numerous migrant birds.

Avifauna :
The national park is a famous birding area in India which houses nearly 380 bird species with several migrants including several species of Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Flycatchers, larks and pipits, etc.

Fauna :
The park is also an excellent place to spot mammals like Jackal, Hyaena, Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, Nilgai, Sambar, Blackbuck and Wild Boar
 

Other Attractions

Bharatpur Government Museum :
This is one of the major attraction after the park which has a rich collection of carved sculptures and ancient inscriptions which provide a glimpes of the royal past

Lohagarh Fort :
Built by Maharaja Suraj Mal in early 18th century has three palaces within its premises like Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas & Kothi and is a great place to visit

Bharatpur Palace:
Not far from the park is the Bharatpur Palace which is an excellent mixture of Mughal and Rajput architecture.

Note:-Walking & cycling are the best ways to witness the rich variety of bird species in the park. Rickshaws are also available on hire for moving inside the park. Besides, a boat trip also gives a good experience in birdwatching and exploring the hidden treasures of Bharatpur
